I am the Song

I am the song 2 copyI Am The Song

There is a song rising
in the gentle darkness of the morning
pushing away night’s blanket
it calls me to cast off my fears
let loose
my desires
riding high
upon the moonlit sky
fading into memory with dawn’s awakening.

This song calls
me to remember
my essential being
it pushes me out
beyond the edges of my comfort zone
like a mother bird
nudging her chick out of the nest
into flight
releasing the bonds
of time holding me back
from being
my most magnificent self
shining
in the light of a brand new day
born upon the song
of day’s awakening.

I am
the song I sing
rising up
from the dark of night.

Dancing Myself Free

Leaning into the edge
of my potential
I shed memory’s lure
calling me back
like a snake
casting off my skin
I slip free
of remembering
what I didn’t know
was possible
until I met you.

Releasing the threads
of memory
held taut
within the cells
of my body
bound up
in memories of you
I flow
free
the words
writing themselves out
as I remember
how to dance
in the unknown
spaces

Shedding the past
I leap
into possibility
inviting me to explore
all that can be
when I set myself free
of what was
and will never be
again
when I dance
free
along the edges
of my potential
coming alive.

I Feel The Spring

I Feel The Spring

I feel the spring
air fresh
against my skin
calling me
to cast off
winter’s dark soul
filled journey
into the night
and rejoice
in the sun
drawing the days
out into the light.

I feel life
calling
and I dance.

Remembering How To Fly

Remembering How to Fly copyRemembering How To Fly

©2013 Louise Gallagher

I cannot feel
the air
against my skin
she said
my heart
has lost its beat
heavy
against the weight
of my skin
grounding my bones
to dust.
I cannot breathe.

Hearts
like birds
are meant to fly
even when their wings
are broken
he said
taking her hand
and holding it
against his chest
she felt
the steady rhythm
of his heart
beat
pounding
against her
skin
pressed tight
against his.

And slowly
her heart
began to beat
and slowly
she remembered
how to fly.

When I Know Love

FlowingWhen I Know Love

2013 Louise Gallagher
I have slept
beneath the sky
of a star studded night
and held
my eyes wide open
to capture the beauty
dancing above me
within my heart.

I have swum
in the waters
of an ocean
filled with limitless wonder
my arms spread wide
to hold onto
life flowing in
and all around me.

I have leapt
into the light
of indescribale treasures
lifting my spirits up
to catch
the joy
of falling free
into being me.

But I have never known
Love
until I let go
of holding onto
nothing
other than the truth
that rises up
to embrace me
when I let go
of holding onto
everything.

The Yearning

The Yearning

©2013 Louise Gallagher

Yearning for the same thing
we meet
upon the field
of possibility
exploring the edges
of what we know
not to be
true
fearing we cannot prove
what we cannot
see

Leaning into our fear
we discover
that we are
the ones we have been seeking
as time’s container
breaks
upon the dawning
it cannot hold
the light of our being
within the limiting belief
that more time
holds the key
to the essence
of our truth

In awe
we leap
into the gap
awash in the pure
delight of
dancing
fearlessly
in the light of being
held
throughout eternity
in the essential
nature
of our being
magnificent
whole
and free.

For Howard, Ian and Kerry.  Much Love.

Breathing Into The Moon

27 Wednesday Mar 2013

SONY DSCBreathing Into The Moon

©2010 Louise Gallagher

The moon hangs,
high
golden light
punched out
a giant hole ripped into
night’s blanket
leaving behind your cut-out face
smiling
Your voice a gentle whisper
filling the blood red blossom
of dawn’s awareness
bursting upon me.
I loved you.
You gave my dreams wings
to fly.

I catch my breath.
Waiting to hear
your voice drift
silently
across the moonlit night
that lies so softly
in memory’s arms
empty of promises
I fall to the ground.

Would I. Could I. Should I fly?

I breathe.
The moon stands still.
As time reorders
its hands
touching
me in that place
where once your shadow
fell
and claimed my every breath
as time stood still
and I disappeared
into your promise of flight.

The moon stands still
and still
I breathe
into the empty space
where once your face
shimmered beneath my hands
touching
your eyes
black as night
that tore my heart
wide
open
as I held out my veins
open
wide
to your sweet kisses
in the night
the moon hung high
as you breathed
life
into my dreams.

Would I. Could I. Should I fly?

I breathe.
You disappear
and only the moon
peers down
with melancholy magic
to where I no longer feel
left out,
upside down
without you
I breathe.

The moon hangs
high
as I sink
low
my breath
catching
high
up
my heart
pounding
down
forcing me to lean
into
my soul
weeping
for the moments
when I dreamed
of midnight flights
of fancy
captive in your arms
that lay across me
pinning me to the ground
holding me in darkness.

The moon
punch drunk
floats across the sky
and I breathe.
Freely.

Time passes
the moon rises
and I fall once again
into the void
left in the wake of your passing by

I breathe
my wings unfold.

Would I
Could I
Should I

fly

Free.

I have a number of poems on my Recover Your Joy blog which I am moving here as I’d like all my poetry in one place. Which means, occasionally, I’ll be posting an old poem here. 🙂 This is one of them.

The Bones of Love

I breathe deeply
into the sun
speckled light
warming
my face
tilted
up
to receive
its kiss
seducing me
to surrender
gravity’s resistance
to flight.

A gentle breeze
brushes against
my skin
stirring
memory
awakened
to your touch
peeling back
the bones
of love
laid bare
in night’s surrender.

Where The River Meets The Sea

where the river meets the sea 1 copy

©2013 Louise Gallagher

I want to
flow freely
like a brook
running down a mountainside
water droplets catapulting
one on top of the other
in a joyous race
to reach
the flat lands
far below
where the river
runs free.

I want
to run
like a river
stretched out
from shore to shore
leading me
into the far horizon
where deep waters
glisten in the sunshine
pouring down
into the open arms
of the sea
waiting
to receive me.

I want to
flow
free.

Inside of me
the rhythm of my heart
skips
a beat dropped
upon the touch
of your fingertips
tracing
the line of my
body
lying
next to you.

Inside of me
my heart
skips
a beat
of joy.
