The Yearning

The Yearning

©2013 Louise Gallagher

Yearning for the same thing
we meet
upon the field
of possibility
exploring the edges
of what we know
not to be
true
fearing we cannot prove
what we cannot
see

Leaning into our fear
we discover
that we are
the ones we have been seeking
as time’s container
breaks
upon the dawning
it cannot hold
the light of our being
within the limiting belief
that more time
holds the key
to the essence
of our truth

In awe
we leap
into the gap
awash in the pure
delight of
dancing
fearlessly
in the light of being
held
throughout eternity
in the essential
nature
of our being
magnificent
whole
and free.

For Howard, Ian and Kerry.  Much Love.

Breathing Into The Moon

27 Wednesday Mar 2013

SONY DSCBreathing Into The Moon

©2010 Louise Gallagher

The moon hangs,
high
golden light
punched out
a giant hole ripped into
night’s blanket
leaving behind your cut-out face
smiling
Your voice a gentle whisper
filling the blood red blossom
of dawn’s awareness
bursting upon me.
I loved you.
You gave my dreams wings
to fly.

I catch my breath.
Waiting to hear
your voice drift
silently
across the moonlit night
that lies so softly
in memory’s arms
empty of promises
I fall to the ground.

Would I. Could I. Should I fly?

I breathe.
The moon stands still.
As time reorders
its hands
touching
me in that place
where once your shadow
fell
and claimed my every breath
as time stood still
and I disappeared
into your promise of flight.

The moon stands still
and still
I breathe
into the empty space
where once your face
shimmered beneath my hands
touching
your eyes
black as night
that tore my heart
wide
open
as I held out my veins
open
wide
to your sweet kisses
in the night
the moon hung high
as you breathed
life
into my dreams.

Would I. Could I. Should I fly?

I breathe.
You disappear
and only the moon
peers down
with melancholy magic
to where I no longer feel
left out,
upside down
without you
I breathe.

The moon hangs
high
as I sink
low
my breath
catching
high
up
my heart
pounding
down
forcing me to lean
into
my soul
weeping
for the moments
when I dreamed
of midnight flights
of fancy
captive in your arms
that lay across me
pinning me to the ground
holding me in darkness.

The moon
punch drunk
floats across the sky
and I breathe.
Freely.

Time passes
the moon rises
and I fall once again
into the void
left in the wake of your passing by

I breathe
my wings unfold.

Would I
Could I
Should I

fly

Free.

I have a number of poems on my Recover Your Joy blog which I am moving here as I’d like all my poetry in one place. Which means, occasionally, I’ll be posting an old poem here. 🙂 This is one of them.

The Bones of Love

I breathe deeply
into the sun
speckled light
warming
my face
tilted
up
to receive
its kiss
seducing me
to surrender
gravity’s resistance
to flight.

A gentle breeze
brushes against
my skin
stirring
memory
awakened
to your touch
peeling back
the bones
of love
laid bare
in night’s surrender.

Where The River Meets The Sea

where the river meets the sea 1 copy

I want to
flow freely
like a brook
running down a mountainside
water droplets catapulting
one on top of the other
in a joyous race
to reach
the flat lands
far below
where the river
runs free.

I want
to run
like a river
stretched out
from shore to shore
leading me
into the far horizon
where deep waters
glisten in the sunshine
pouring down
into the open arms
of the sea
waiting
to receive me.

I want to
flow
free.

Inside of me
the rhythm of my heart
skips
a beat dropped
upon the touch
of your fingertips
tracing
the line of my
body
lying
next to you.

Inside of me
my heart
skips
a beat
of joy.

I Am Awakened

I am Awakened copyI Am Awakened

I dreamt of you last night
I dreamt
of those days long past
when you held the keys
of my mind
tightly
locked inside the cage
of your deceit
spinning
my life
falling
deeper
into the darkness of despair.

Trapped within
your arms
cold
I could not
feel
the sun and moon and stars
calling me
to break
free.

I dreamt of you last night
and now you’re gone.

I am awakened.

Braking, I stop.

Braking, I stopBraking, I stop.

©2013 Louise Gallagher

In the hurtle
of life
roaring down the tracks
of time spent
clicking off the dates
pasted on a wall
I painted
just last year
I wonder
I wonder
(with a harried glance
at the years flying by)
where have all the flowers
gone
I never stopped to pick?

Time was
held fast
within the hypnotic glare
of the view
outside
my window
fogging up
fogging up
by the times
they are a changin’
in the glare
of time
passing by

Braking
sparks fly
and I crash
into time
calling me
calling me
to stop
and enjoy
the wildflowers
dancing in the fields
of beauty
all around.

Braking
I stop
and the world
stops with me.

Never Mind The Numbers

20 Wednesday Mar 2013

Never mind the numbers copyNever Mind The Numbers

©2013 Louise Gallagher

There was a time
I felt safe
painting by numbers
that connected the dots
with lines of colour
following
one digit leading
to two
and then the next
leading me to a picture
that never surprised me.

There was a time
I tried to live my life
following the numbers
set out carefully
upon the page
that told me what
dot to connect
to create the picture
of my life
that would keep me safe
from boogie men
and unexpected noises
that when bump in the dark.

The numbers are cold now
they’ve lost all sense
of colour
their direction
cast to the wind
freeing up the canvas
where I let go
of keeping the sequence
aligned upon the page
as I explore each moment
as if there are no numbers
to give meaning
to life
there is only the unexpected
gift of being
alive
in the vibrant rainbow
of life flowing
all around me

Life is
getting more interesting
surprise greets me
around every corner
and I embrace
the unexpected
in the numbers
disappearing
as I paint
outside the frame
I once imagined
was the only way
to live my life.

I like it
out here
beyond the connecting
dots
spreading
my wings
kicking up my heels
leaping from a puddle
into the rainbow
at the end of the street
with no numbers.

Out here
I write and paint
and sing and dance
and live and love
and spin about
and never mind
the numbers.

Out here
I am alive.

A Painter’s Tale — Part 2

©2013 Louise Gallagher

For  Lynn and Tamara

I am
an idea
that began
with just a seed
cast upon the wind
my fate
determined
to survive
on nature’s whim.

Blown free
I find
myself
planted
in the soil
of possibility
deeply rooted
in the light
and love
around me.

I stand
in the forest
of my sisters
sheltering me
from the winds
that blow
holding me
rooted
to this place
where I am
a tree
becoming me.

***********************************

On Sunday when I left my tree painting on my easel I thought I was almost done. Last night, after working on it for another 3 hours, I discovered the trees had more to reveal.

A Painter’s Tale

©2013 Louise Gallagher

I pour myself
upon a blank canvas
immersing time
and space
into the flow
of what appears
present
when I let go
of needing
to make visible
what is not seen.

Creativity runs
wild
in the forest
of possibility
transforming
what was not there
into what becomes
present
in the moment
when I let go
of believing
it’s up to me
to make it happen.
