It Was Never Love
©2013 Louise Gallagher
It was never love
that held me captive
in your arms
where I was lost
to all sight
sound
feeling
knowing
but the fear
of never getting back
the one I met
when first you said
I will always love you
and stole
my peace of mind
in my yearning
for the chimera
of a love that never existed.
You were the lie
the one who decieved
with every breath
the one who promised
with every word
to betray me.
And you did
betray me
yet in the end
I didn’t need you
to tell me who I am
In the end
I found myself
awakening
to the truth
It wasn’t love
you gave so freely.
It was lies.
wow, emotion-packed and powerful!
Thanks Diana — it always surprises and amazes me when the words simply appear and I discover how far I’ve come! 🙂
Sounds like you had an experience with a conman.
LOL — that I did. And now I’m free 🙂
Proud of you! xo
Thanks! 🙂
Powerful poem Louise. It resonates with me. I do not think in my case it had always been ‘lies’ but a lot of this poem is definitely how I felt after the betrayal and the pain of lost love.
Hugs Elizabeth.
