to understand
what was then
I hear your voice
drowning out
the light.

in the darkness
light recedes
into the depths
of memory calling me
to stop
breathing
and fall
asleep

Slowly I succumb
to the ebb and flow of the waves
lulling me to let go
of breathing
and fall
asleep beneath the fear
of yesterday
weighing me down.

Gasping for air
I kick out
desperately clawing for
the light
I swim upwards
away from the murky waters
of not seeing
the light of today

is brightest
where the sky
falls down
to touch the sea
flowing freely
away from memory
falling
deeply
to sleep.

Awake now,
all I need
to understand
life’s calling
is to know,
I am Here.
