The news has been filled with the story of a flight in the Antarctic that has ended against a mountainside where 3 men are feared dead. I imagined the wives and loved ones waiting for news, hoping against hope, wishing against fear that it will not be the ending of the story of their lives. And the poem above wrote itself.

My heart knows
the way
to beat
a path
home
no matter
how dark
the journey
no matter
how deep
the fall.
my heart knows
the way
home
to Love.

She stands
a lone
figure
waiting
on the curb
waiting
for the light
waiting
to change
direction.
She stands
searching
for a sign
of where
she will turn
to change
direction
she must step
off the street
away
from the darkness
that consumes her
every waking moment
not willing to risk
turning back
she steps
around
what she cannot see
and returns
to the darkness
her body consumed
by the hunger
flowing
through her veins.
The light changes
and she is gone.
