Dark gives way to light
Morning breaks, the heart opens
Love fills in the cracks.

Alleluia Chorus

Alleluia Chorus
©2018 Louise Gallagher

Darkness rests
still
is the night
lingering at the edge
of day
break
waiting
waiting to appear
to open up
hearts and minds
to the wonder
of a thousand tiny fragments
of light ascending
into heavenly hosts
of alleluia
exalting
in the beauty of spirits rising
in Love and Light.

Alleluia
Alleluia

The Christchild is coming.

Alleluia
Alleluia

Love is in the air.

You do not own me

07 Saturday May 2016

My daughter and I have dinner and she talks about the indignity of being subjected to men’s comments flung at her as she walks down the street.

And this poem arose.

I am rising

©2016 Louise Gallagher

Soul Dance card copyI am rising
rising up
from the ashes
a Phoenix
renewed
casting out
heartache
and heartbreak
and heart wrenching
lessons
of life
tossed
overboard
into the boiling seas
where I could not feel
the heat
of my heart
pounding
flowing endlessly
with creation
rising
rising up
into woman
shaking
shaking off
time’s grim hold
holding
holding me down
so I could not
rise
rise up
to hear
my voice
rising
rising up
from the ashes.

I am rising.

She Once Had Dreams

She once had dreams.

©2016 Louise Gallagher

She sits
head bowed
shaggy black hair
covered up
by a soiled grey hoody
covering up
the ravaged eyes
of lost hope and dreams
escaping
in a puff
upon a pipe
that robs her of
dreaming
of being
anywhere
but here
sitting on a sidewalk
back against a wall.

He stumbles
shoulders hunched
grey hair streaked
pulled back
into a pony-tail
head uncovered
revealing
empty eyes
and gaunt cheeks
pockmarked
by years passing
on the street
to nowhere
but a bottle
left empty
filling up
again
into that space
where once
hopes and dreams
tried desperately to survive
amidst the pain and sorrow
of a past
he could not forget
and the despair
he could not let go of.

They stand
together
falling endlessly
into the abyss
of hopelessness
falling down
cast out
condemnation
falls
upon their heads
bowed in supplication
praying for release
as we pass by
never dreaming
they once
had dreams
worth dreaming.

The River of Peace

The River of Peace

 Peace comes when we become
like the river
flowing endlessly
into the sea.

The river doesn’t try
to change obstacles in its way
the river only flows
forward
from this moment
into the next.

Peace will flow like the river
when we let the way
become our path
flowing into peace.

8. Peace Comes

Peace comes
in the space between
our fight
to overcome the differences
that divide us

one against the other
we line up
on opposite sides
of the borders
that keep us apart
and separate us

from our humanity
calling us
to make peace
come
between the distance
that separates us

we must know
that all that divides us
is our humanity
seeking to know
peace.

Searching in the Dark

copyright 2015 Louise Gallagher

Sleep lies restlessly
leaving no mark on the pillow
it stalks the night
searching for a crack
to slip silently through
to the other side of night.

I search for sleep
in the dark
finding myself awake
in the silence of the night
slipping away
through the cracks
where my resless mind
seeks the one thing it knows
will bring me through the night.

Peace.

FIGHTING FOR PEACE

 The bells rang loud
calling out for peace
but we could not hear
beyond the deafening roar
of our guns
fighting for peace.
